As a Nerdfighter and resident of the internet, I would be remiss if I were not to post a shout-out to the Project for Awesome today! For those of you who don’t know, the P4A is a YouTube charity event hosted by the Vlogbrothers (John and Hank Green). The idea is to make videos for charities you want to support and donate money to Nerdfighteria’s Foundation to Decrease World Suck, which will then allocate the funds raised to charities of your choosing! If none of these words are making sense to you, try watching this and this.
Here is a link to the Indiegogo page if you want to donate. For Nerdfighters and fans of John Green, Hank Green, and many other YouTubers, there are some pretty fantastic perks available. For example, last year I got this copy of An Imperial Affliction, which is a replica of the copy they used to film The Fault in Our Stars movie (inside are the same 8 pages of the book written by John Green repeated over and over).
This year, John is sending books from his personal library as a perk, but I missed out on that one because they all ran out while I was at work (I was quite sad about that). One of the other reading-related perks this year is a book recommendation list from Hank and John! I’ll probably be snagging that at some point this weekend. The funds raised during the P4A will be split up depending on which videos get the most votes on the P4A website. Click here to look at videos that are for educational charities, including many book and literacy-related charities! Click here for arts, which includes writing charities like NaNoWriMo.
One day I hope to participate by making a video and hosting a livestream viewing event, but for this year, I’ll be doing my usual binge of videos and watch as much of the 48-hour livestream as I can! The P4A ends at midnight on Sunday night.
DFTBA!
