The Secret Life of a Book Blogger Tag

secret life

Woo! Thank you to Charley @ booksandbakes1 for tagging me! Her blog is marvelous; she’s a teacher, too, and she’s from Stratford-Upon-Avon…how much cooler can you get!?

How long have you been a blogger?

I’m about to celebrate my 3-year blogiversary on Rose Read, but I began blogging about a year or two before that on other sites. So we’ll say about 4-5 years.

At what point do you think you will stop?

I hope never. I’m going to be in my rocking chair blogging one day, and my grandkids will probably have no idea what the word “blog” is…

What is the best part?

I just love writing. I enjoy expressing myself and my thoughts…I loved writing papers about the books I read in school (I was an English major), and this is a much more fun, low-pressure way of doing that!

What is the worst part?

Time! When you’ve been away you feel like you have so much to catch up on, and there never seems to be enough time.

How long does it take you to find/create pictures to use?

Depends. I usually just use photos I’ve taken, or I’ll grab some covers of books from Google, so only a couple minutes. I’ve created graphics only a few times, and they were very simple…like, MS Paint simple. I recently discovered Canva, though, and I’ve started to make some on there (like the one above!) that took me maybe 30 min each (but only because I’m a perfectionist).

Who’s your book crush?

This is such a hard question because I don’t really crush on book boys. I’ll dig back into my younger years for this one and give a weird answer: I definitely had a really weird crush on Dustfinger from the Inkworld books (who’s played by Paul Bettany in the movie, which I’ve never seen, but what an excellent casting choice).

What author would you like to have on your blog?

J.K. Rowling. Duh.

What do you wear when you write your blog?

Nothing 😉

No, it depends on the time of day, because I blog whenever I have free time. I might still be in work clothes or I might be in casual clothes or I might be in pj’s.

How long does it take you to prepare a post?

Also depends. If it’s a review or a discussion or something I put a lot of thought into, it can take me several days. I like to draft and then let it sit for the night so I can come back and edit with a fresh mind later if it’s something that has me a bit stumped. But for other posts like tags and hauls, it’s quicker…maybe an hour…I’m a perfectionist.

How do you feel about the book blogger community/culture?

It’s incredible! Everyone is so positive and supportive of one another; there are no haters! People are very open-minded and respectful of differing opinions. We’re all just nerds who are super enthusiastic about books! I’m actually getting ready to meet up with some bloggers IRL at BookCon and I am beyond psyched!

What do you think one should do to have a successful blog?

It depends on how you define “success.” If success means writing quality content, then my advice would be to always write something you yourself would want to read. If success means being engaged in the community or getting lots of readers, definitely interact and comment on other people’s posts. Altogether, just enjoy it!

I tag:

No one! I feel like so many people have already done this tag, but if you haven’t and you want to, please do!

  1. Ooh, where did you use to blog? Before book blogging I used to blog as well on Tumblr and Livejournal, though I really wouldn’t consider the former as really blogging as most of what I did was fangirling and reblogging of pics, haha.

Also seems like everyone’s loving Canva! I have Photoshop so I never really strayed, but I should check it out and see what the fuss is about. 🙂

    1. Yeah, I don’t count Tumblr either cause I don’t use it for actual blogging, haha, though I’ve definitely had my Tumblr longer than my WordPress. I had another WordPress blog that I’ve since deleted in shame, and I also blogged briefly for a local entertainment website in college (that also no longer exists).

  2. Great post! I laughed out loud at your answer to “What do you wear when you’re blogging?”
It’s so cool that you’ve been blogging for 3 + years. Part of me wishes I would have started blogging earlier but I would probably have been MORTIFIED by what I would have blogged about 3 years ago.

  3. I always find questions that assume bloggers have some kind of schedule or blogging habits really interesting, like they sit a certain place or wear a certain thing. I kind of blog…when I have free time and the mood strikes me? There’s really no pattern at all!

  4. Perfectionist club! *high five* It always takes me so long to write a post. I like to write all that comes to my mind, leave it for a few hours, and come back to rearrange and make the review shiny and error-free!
I always laugh when it comes to the clothes question. I blog whenever I have free time, so right now I’m in my pajamas. Yesterday, I was in a fancy dress. Haven’t tried naked yet, haha!
