Mid-Year Freak-Out Book Tag

This is a super cool tag, and I was tagged by the incomparably funny and awesome Orangutan Librarian. If you don’t follow the orangutan, you are wrong.

Just to give you an idea of where I’m at, I’ve read 22 books this year so far (including my HP rereads), which is 7 books ahead of schedule according to my Goodreads goal of 30 books. So, contrary to the name of the tag, I’m NOT freaking out! Holla! Check out the whole list here if you so desire. I’ve linked reviews to the books below as well.

Best Book You’ve Read Yet in 2016

Smell of other people's houses

The Smell of Other People’s Houses by Bonnie Sue Hitchcock. (Sorry Ernest Cline, yours was a close 2nd.)

Best Sequel You’ve Read So Far in 2016

This Shattered World

This Shattered World by Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner (Sorry, Pat Rothfuss.)

New Release You Haven’t Read Yet But Want To

Starflight

Starflight by Melissa Landers (released in Feb)

Most Anticipated Release for the Second Half of the Year

Cursed Child

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child  by J. K. Rowling, Jack Thorne, and John Tiffany (though I grudgingly admit it…)

Biggest Disappointment

carry on

Carry On by Rainbow Rowell. Haters get at me. Read my review for explanation.

Biggest Surprise

castle waiting cover

Castle Waiting by Linda Medley. I didn’t even know this existed and it is fantastic.

Favourite New Author

miranda-rothfuss

Patrick Rothfuss. Even though I technically started reading him last year, I read book 2 this year and am now a big Rothfan(?) (is there a term for us?). Because he’s not a novelist, an honorable mention goes to Lin Manuel Miranda for writing Hamilton, which is just a small little musical if you hadn’t heard about it…(pictured above with Rothfuss in a face-melting nerdgasm of a photo).

Newest Fictional Crush

serenity 1

Malcolm Reynolds from Firefly. Yes, it’s a TV show, but I started reading the comics this year so it counts.

Newest Favourite Character

name of the wind

Qvothe. No explanation necessary.

Book That Made You Cry

Everything everything

Everything, Everything by Nicola Yoon. Wept like a small child.

Book That Made You Happy

Harry Potter Illustrated Stone

The new illustrated edition of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone by J.K. Rowling, illustrated by Jim Kay.

Favourite Book to Film Adaptation

I don’t think I’ve seen any yet this year, though I need to get my ass to the theater and see The BFG! My answer though, it easily going to be Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Duh.

Favourite Post You Have Done This Year

Probably “I got sorted in the loser house,” which is a panicky, tongue-in-cheek exposé on the Ilvermorny sorting on Pottermore. It was so much fun to write.

Most Beautiful Book You’ve Bought This Year

journey_by_aaron_becker

Journey by Aaron Becker

What Book Do You Need to Read by the End of the Year

aristotle_and_dante_discover_the_secrets_of_the_universe_cover

Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire Sáenz. This book is everywhere. I have to read it.

  2. Noooo! You didn’t like Carry On? I want to read it so desperately. I’m pretty sure I will still love it when I do read it. :p
I also want to read Everything, Everything. Good to know I should expect crying as well…

Ari & Dante ARE EVERYWHERE, this is true and it makes me so happy. This book went kind of viral, didn’t it? I hope the love for it never stops!

  3. The cover for The Smell of Other People’s Houses is so beautiful. I’m glad you enjoyed This Shattered World because I’m hoping to read These Broken Stars soon-ish. I’m excited, but extremely nervous for The Cursed Child haha. Hopefully it won’t let us down. I’m also glad to see that I’m not the only person who hasn’t read Ari & Dante. I REALLY need to read it before the end of the year too!!

Thanks for the tag!! I’ve done this one already, but I appreciate the thought 😊
