Book hauls

Fall Haul

Hello world. I’m feeling very wistful today so I’m doing an easy post for NaBloPoMo that doesn’t require much thinking: a haul! This is my fall haul, even though fall is not over yet. Let’s get right to it.

Firstly, I got another ARC from Penguin Random House, Girl in Pieces by Kathleen Glasgow. I got it the day after the book came out, so the I’m-cool-and-read-the-book-before-you incentive was low, and therefore I haven’t read it yet. But I’m looking forward to it:

Nextly, I ordered some Toms boots and the first volume of Lumberjanes comics, which ended up arriving on the same day. Quite excited about this LumberJanes: To the Max Edition by Shannon Watters, Grace Ellis, Noelle Stevenson and Brooke Allen:

This next one is from a Kicksarter campaign from Beyond Press, who now has some other totally rad projects going on, so check them out! This is Beyond: the Queer Sci-Fi & Fantasy Comic Anthology. I bought the special hardcover that came with a bunch of prints from the book. This is my favorite purchase in this haul and I can’t wait to read it!

Then, for completing my summer reading program at the library, I got to pick a book from Amazon. I chose Here by Richard McGuire. This is another graphic novel, and it’s pretty kooky: there isn’t much text, and the story unfolds in the same room throughout Earth’s history. On each page, panels are superimposed on each other to show the passage of time. It’s difficult to describe, so I’ll show an example (click to zoom). I’ve already read it, and it is a very interesting book.

Then I had a lovely day in Chicago with some friends, and we visited 2 great bookstores that are only a few storefronts apart from each other: Volumes Bookcafe and Myopic Books. At Volumes I bought Emily Bronte’s The Professor and also got a mystery book for a donation. I chose one with wrapping that said “Epic LARP Fantasy” (cause DUH!) and it ended up being an ARC of It’s All Fun and Games by Dave Barrett!

At Myopic books, I picked up the charming little title, The Library of Unrequited Love by Sophie Divry. This bookstore is amazing.

Then Hannah Hart’s new book, Buffering: Tales of a Life Fully Loaded, came out! I got a fancy-pants signed copy from Premiere Collectibles. I met Hannah at BookCon and I lurve her YouTube videos, so I’m really looking forward to this one:

Finally, my library had a used book sale, and who can resist books for a dollar or less?

Fall haul used books

  • Hector and the Search for Happiness by Francois Lelord
  • Pride and Prejudice and Zombies by Jane Austen and Seth Grahame-Smith
  • This Book is Overdue! How Librarians and Cybrarians Can Save Us All by Marilyn Johnson (I’ve already read this one but didn’t own it – it was a dollar)
  • The Universe Versus Alex Woods by Gavin Extence
  • Paris by Edward Rutehrford
  • A Hologram for the King by Dave Eggers
  • Geektastic: Tales from the Nerd Herd edited by Holly Black and Cecil Castellucci
  • The Chronicles of Harris Burdick edited by Chris Van Allsburg (collection of authors telling the stories behind the famous Harris Burdick illustrations)

And that’s it! It seems like a lot. I did unhaul 10 books a few days ago so I’m feeling good about that. Let me know if you’ve read any of these!

  1. I’m way behind on my book reading with the change of jobs and the 3 month old baby keeping his dad pretty busy, but reading your post is really refreshing. I’ll have to follow your lead amd get back on the reading scene somehow!

  2. I haven’t read any of them though I have P&P&Z, which I was going to read before the movie came out but then I reread P&P and didn’t like it so I didn’t bother with the spin off.
By the way, that Paris spine is beautiful!
