TAGSTRAVAGANZA: Book Buying Habits Tag

Tagstravaganza_ Book Buying Habits

It’s a TAGSTRAVAGANZA!! With the busy-ness of my summer, I’ve fallen woefully behind on tags, so you’ll see lots of tags in the coming days as I try to catch up! I’ve got a short reprieve between summer classes and fall, so Imma try to knock all these out before August 22!

The first tag comes from the wonderful Carrianne, at Carrianne’s Cuppa ‘n Critiques, who I’m sure is also feeling the stress of library school 😉 Very belated thanks for the tag, Carrianne! If you like books and tea (or just books), check her out!

Where do you buy your books from?

Lots of places! Whenever I visit an indie bookstore, I buy a book (or many), because there aren’t any independents in my town, so I’m always super happy to shop at them. Otherwise, I use Barnes & Noble mostly, and very occasionally Book Depository. Sometimes Half Price Books. Really anywhere!

Do you ever pre-order books, and if so do you do this in-store or online?

Yes! Mostly online, unless there is an in-store event attached to the book release. Barnes & Noble online is my go-to if there isn’t an event. And I’ve done Book Depository and Amazon UK if it’s a UK release I want.

On average, how many books do you a buy a month?

It really varies; sometimes 1-2, sometimes 5-6, depending on my whims. We’ll call it an average of 4.

Do you use your local library?

Yes! I work at a library, so I use that one because it’s better than the one where I actually live.

What is your opinion on library books?

Love em!

How do you feel about second hand books?

Love em!

Do you keep your TBR on your bookshelf or no?

No! I’ve actually talked about my TBR habits on this blog, and in short, I don’t use TBRs. I just read whatever I want, whenever I want. Technically my entire bookshelf is my TBR at the moment. Since I moved back in with my parents, I don’t have room for my whole book collection, so I packed up all the books I’ve already read in boxes, kept them packed, and use my available shelf space for books I haven’t read.

Do you plan to read all of the books you own?

Yes! Though it probably won’t happen; I’ve already gotten rid of books I lost interest in because they sat dormant on the shelf for years.

What do you do with the books you feel you will never read/did not enjoy?

Donate! There’s a book exchange every summer in my town that I bring books to. If it’s during another time of year, I use Half Price Books, because you can sometimes get money for them. They will donate what they can’t resell.

Have you ever donated books?

Yes! See previous answer.

Have you ever been on a book buying ban?

Nope.

Do you feel that you buy too many books?

Yes. I sometimes feel guilty. But does that stop me? Absolutely not.

  1. We totally had similar answers for this (and I’m totally jealous that you work in a library!). I took two library classes this summer and I’m about to start another on the 22nd as well, sooo I’m feeling the pressure for sure, haha.

  2. The average number of books you buy is 4 and you feel guilty because you think you buy too many? Hehe, you’re making most other bloggers look bad! I’ve been forcing myself to buy less the last month or so, but before that I went kind of wild, which is why I had to go on a buying ban for a little bit.

The question about whether we plan to read the books we own is kind of unfair. Yes, I DO plan on it, that’s why I buy them. But will I get to all of them? Maybe… Maybe not.

    Anyway, a fun tag! 😃

  3. I have TBR’s that I keep in the back of my head, but when I go to a bookstore, it’s free roaming. I love to “discover” a good book on my own, but if I’ve read tons of great reviews about a book, I’ll buy for sure. There’s just something special about walking around a bookshelf, and choosing a book that really catches your interest, than ordering a specific one online.
